Hello! My name is Marie, and I am 1/3 of The Evergreen Collective! I love to sew! I also love Meredith and Amber and I feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of this creative journey with them, and with you!
I grew up in a small town in Southern Manitoba. I moved to Southern Ontario for University, fell in love, got married, and decided to stay here. I miss my family every day (we’re a pretty tight bunch), but my youngest brother is studying nearby so we see each other often, and I’ve been working hard to convince my parents to move East once they retire!
I recently moved to downtown Toronto; for my husband to be closer to his job, and for us to have more time together. It was a big change for a small town girl like me! We had been living in a 150 year old farm house, out in the middle of the countryside. It was peaceful and quiet, and we had chickens and a huge garden! Now I live on the 30th floor of a high-rise condo building, and everything I need is within walking distance. Seriously, we sold our car, so we walk everywhere, all the time. It’s wonderful! Quite the shift- but I’m glad we did it!
Sewing makes me happy. The entire process of it! From going to my favourite fabric store with my mom and picking out new fabric, to browsing Pinterest for project inspiration, and especially sitting at my sewing machine and creating a usable product. I find it very calming (when things go right and I don’t have to do too much “un-sewing”), and most of all I find it very fulfilling. I love that I’m exercising the skills that God gave me, and I am thrilled that people like you are interested in what I’m creating!
A few other things that make me happy: my fluffy little geriatric pup, fair trade dark chocolate, tea, holding my husband’s hand, plants—house or otherwise (I transformed my teeny tiny balcony into an urban garden – I planted peas, spinach, kale, lavender, mint, and a few special flowers. And I’m just getting started!), changing seasons, hugs, the tv show New Girl, desserts, dresses, and the colour blue.
